
GRASSI ERCOLE A. "ART" Age 90 of Canonsburg, formerly of Houston, passed away peacefully at 10:50 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2015, at The Regency Assisted Living of Charlotte, North Carolina. He was born December 15, 1924, in Houston a son of the late Alfonzo and Christina DeMartino Grassi. Mr. Grassi graduated from Canonsburg High School and proudly served with the United States Navy as an Electrician's Mate during World War II, until May 3, 1946. He had been a member of the American Legion Post 902 in Houston and the VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg. Prior to his retirement he was employed for many years as an electrical engineer with the former McGraw Edison Power Systems in Canonsburg and installed carpeting as a side line around the area. Mr. Grassi lived most of his life in the Grassi family home in Houston, was an avid card player and bowler and very much enjoyed eating good food. On August 10, 1948, he married his beloved wife of 65 years Naomi M. "Ann" Lee who passed away December 11, 2013. Surviving to cherish his memory is his son, Nelson Ercole Grassi of Charlotte, North Carolina; daughters, Marie Spiker and Edna Nixon; his son-in-law, Joe Shook of Houston; grandchildren, Darla Campell, Marla and Jennifer Spiker, Phillip, Neal (Heidi) and Taylor Grassi, Stacy (Chad Piotrowski) Proia, George and Edward Nixon, Lee Ann Settles and William Nixon; two sisters, Doris (Salvatore) Cargnoni of Bridgeville and Dolores M. Maffio of Washington; many great-grandchildren including Isabella Love and Jaden Piotowski; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are his dear daughter, Claudette Shook who passed away August 8, 2012; a granddaughter, Carla Spiker; three brothers, Chester, Nelson and Daniel Grassi; and four sisters, Carmie Gaydos, Sylvia Cavasina, Mary Marcantonio and Gerry Farrar. His family put a note above Mr. Grassi's bed that they would like to share. "Please open a window when he passes. He and his bride are going to San Diego before they go to heaven".
