GARNER CLARETTA A. On the morning of October 14, 2015, Claretta, known to her friends and family as Cookie, passed away peacefully with her sons at her bedside. Claretta was the daughter of the late William L. Harris and Margaretta Harris. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Garner; and her sister, Zipporah Washington; and brothers, Burness (Jimmy) and Dennis Holt. She was born in Homestead, PA and was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System. She graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School 1964. Cookie later went on to get her Nurse's Aid Certification and worked in that capacity at Homestead Hospital and Willis Center before stopping to raise her family. She later worked for the Homestead Borough as a school crossing guard before going back to being a nurse's aide at the Shadyside Heritage Nursing Home until she retired. She leaves to mourn two devoted sons, Nick and Ronald Garner; sister, Natalie Davis; brothers, Marvin and Merrill Holt; sister-in-law, Margaret Scott; nieces, Melissa Davis, Alicia Scott, Yvette Carey, Christine Coleman; and nephews, Stephen, Phillip, Michael and Lloyd Holt; her great-nieces, whom she called her girls, Nadia Davis and Amaya Waters; and a host of relatives and friends, especially Karen and Ken Taylor. Family will received guests Monday, October 19, 2015, 9-11 a.m. followed by services at 11 a.m. at WHITE MEMORIAL CHAPEL OF PT. BREEZE, 7204 Thomas Blvd., 15208.
