PRIBANIC JOHN John's blessed journey ended peacefully at age 108 on May 31, 2018 in Millsboro, DE. Formerly a resident of West Wilmerding in North Versailles, he moved to Dover, DE at age 92 to live near his son, Tom. Born on June 22, 1909 in Zdenac, Croatia, he and his mother, Ana, arrived at Ellis Island on September 17, 1912 to join his father, Franjo Pribanic in Pittsburgh. Quitting school in ninth grade, he began working at Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh to help his family but was laid off during the Great Depression. He found construction work on the Montgomery Locks and Dam and in coke plants in Midland where he met his future wife, Pauline Wasko. They married in 1940. Returning to Westinghouse, he continued working until his retirement after 45 years. He served as a commissioner for the North Versailles Water Authority for 10 years. He also was a lifelong member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, Lodge #141. John was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Pauline; his brothers, Frank, Joseph, Tom, and George and his sister, Anne. John is survived by his sons, Tom Pribanic (wife, Dee) and John Pribanic (wife, Diane); four grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous cherished nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Colman Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. John will be laid to rest in Good Shepherd Cemetery.
