EVANS DORIS SHORTY BERTOVIC Age 74, passed away Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, in Wilmington, NC at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center. She was born in Penn Hills, PA on September 25, 1941, the daughter of the late Nicholas Bertovic and Bertha Seaman Bertovic. She was a graduate of Penn Hills High School Class of 1959 and a graduate of Columbia Hospital Nursing School. On June 20, 1964, she married Byron Ron Evans in Plum, PA. Doris was an R.N. at Magee-Womens Hospital for 35 years. After moving to Raleigh, NC, she continued her nursing career at Rex Hospital for five years before retiring to Wilmington, NC where she became a full-time homemaker. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Brian Evans; and grandson, Mason Evans; and also daughter, Dr. Dana Evans-Semmel (and husband Dr. Brady Semmel) all of Wilmington; twin sister, Delores Bertovic Scott (Bernie); and sister, Barbara Crnovic; sisters-in-law, Barb McBride (Ray) and Beverly DelMoral (Tom). A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark Catholic Church, 1011 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, NC 28403.
