Sr. Genevieve (Formerly Sr. Generosa) was born December 14, 1919, in Niles, Ohio. She attended St. Mary's Grade School in Ford City, PA and Providence High School. She entered the Sisters of Divine Providence on August 30, 1936. Throughout the next 79 years she faithfully and joyfully served God through the wonderful gift of music. Sr. Genevieve taught elementary school music in the Diocese of Pittsburgh at St. Basil - Carrick, St. Mary's - Glenshaw, St. Alphonsus - Springdale and served on the Diocesan musicians' committee. In 1980, she embarked on a new career as co-director of St. Ambrose Manor for senior citizens for 13 years, and then moved to Providence Heights where she directed the liturgical music for the Sisters of Divine Providence. Retirement was not in Sr. Genevieve's vocabulary. She continued to give piano lessons and shared her talent and love of liturgy with the residents at Cumberland Crossing Personal Care Home. Sister Genevieve received a B.S. in Public School Music and a Master of Music from Duquesne University. She furthered her studies in music at Boston University and Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She learned to play every instrument so that she was better able to serve her students. She is fondly remembered by her many friends and former music students.
