MELE JOHN Age 85, of Canonsburg, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2015, in McMurray Hills Manor, McMurray. He was born on August 28, 1930, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Anthony and Mary Putorti Mele. John was a proud father and grandfather. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was a sports fan and particularly enjoyed playing golf and watching men's softball. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors by taking long walks through the property and woods where he used to farm. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and looked forward to family gatherings. Anywhere he went, John was always the life of the party. John was a 1948 graduate of Chartiers Township High School. He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg. After many devoted years, John retired from J & F Tire Company, formerly Andy Brothers Tire. On June 29, 1957, he married his beloved wife, Frances J. Sonson Mele, who passed away on April 12, 2015. Surviving are his four loving children, John A. (Debbie) Mele of Canonsburg, Robert F. (Lorie) Mele of Houston, Frances A. (David) Paluda of Houston, and James E. (Jennifer) Mele of Houston; seven precious grandchildren, Bobby, Ryan, Abby, Jacob, and Juliana Mele and Michael and Maria Paluda; three siblings, Dolores (the late Metro) Podolek of Washington, William (the late Betty) Mele of Strabane, and Mary Ann Byers of Amity; sisters-in-law, Rita (the late Terry) Fetsko of Canonsburg and Helen (the late Vince) Sonson of Wexford; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Steve Yevins of Washington; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elmer and Leonora Jackson. Friends are welcome from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday in SALANDRA FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg with Rev. John Batykefer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
