MILLS MARY E. BETTY, Ph.D. Age 87, passed peacefully on October 20, 2015, at the Arbors III of St. Barnabas Health System. Betty was the daughter of the late Richard and Alusta (Hiller) Hollihan; and wife of the late Paul A. Mills; sister of Dorothy M. Kane and the late Richard Hollihan, Cyril Hollihan, Bernice Serre, and Ethel Wolf. Betty is survived by nephews and nieces, Paul Hinnebusch, Ann Rowe, Richard (Lorraine) Wolf, Peggy McCracken, Susan Hollihan, and Marlene B. (Walter) Merriman. After Betty's marriage to Paul, she became a lifelong student. She attended various colleges, eventually graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a Doctorate Degree of Psychology, M. Elizabeth Mills, Ph.D. In addition to her Ph.D., she obtained a real estate license and was involved in interior design. But her true passion was traveling. Betty and Paul traveled worldwide on business and pleasure trips. Her favorite places were Italy and Carmel, California. After Paul's death, Betty continued to travel, joining a professional group of doctors and lawyers to China, Australia, and Japan, to name a few. With her professional background, she volunteered her time, especially on New Year's Eve, to answer calls from those who were desperate and lonely. Her kindness not only extended to family, but to those who needed guidance. Throughout her life, Betty set an example of grace, dignity, and a sense of humor. She leaves a legacy of choice, commitment, independence, humor, and compassion for others. The family is grateful for the compassionate and loving care Betty received from the staff at St. Barnabas. As per her request, there were no funeral services or visitation. In lieu of tears, Betty would prefer remembrances of smiles and how she touched the lives of many during her lifetime.
