MILLER DENNIS J. Age 62, of Ross Township, formerly of Millvale, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015, with his wife by his side, after fighting kidney cancer for nine-and-a-half years. He was the son of the late William A. and Esther Miller of Millvale. Marrying his "High School Sweetheart", Ruth Ann Miller in 1979, Dennis leaves behind his beloved wife of 36 years. He was also the proud and loving father of his children, Lori Ruth Mascara (Jerry) and Brian Dennis Miller (Alyssa) and his first grandchild, Dawson Phillip Mascara. Dennis also leaves behind a brother, William A. Miller (Marlene); two nieces, Gina Miller (Deb Parise) and Reneé Farrell; a nephew, William Robert Miller, a great-nephew, Miller Farrell; and a great- niece, Fallon Farrell, all of Florida. Other beloved include his mother-in-law, Dorothy Labas (the late Leonard); in-laws, Daniel Labas (Pam), Jim Labas (Jan), Karen Plakosh (the late Greg A. Plakosh); and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many dear friends. Denny was a 1971 graduate of Millvale High School. He lettered in football and was an accomplished trumpet player in the band, performing with the District Band of Westmoreland County. Earning a "Senatorial Scholarship" to the University of Pittsburgh, he double majored in psychology and political science and graduated in 1975. He received his Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law in 1978 where he earned the award of "Outstanding Advocate in the Appellate Moot Court 1977-1978." A practicing attorney for many years, Dennis also enjoyed being an entrepreneur, owning and operating many small businesses during his lifetime. Denny was an avid golfer, but he especially loved Pitt Panther Football and with his wife was a season ticket holder for many years. They enjoyed traveling with the Golden Panthers to see many games out-of-state. He and his wife were also Pittsburgh Penguins season ticket holders and patrons of the CLO and the Pittsburgh Symphony. Most of all, Denny's greatest passion was being a "Dad." He took pride in supporting his children's athletic and academic endeavors over the years. He delighted in being an involved "Cheer Dad," never missed a dance recital or basketball game, and was an devoted supporter of his son's baseball career through college. Recently, nothing was more fulfilling than becoming a "Granddad" and making memories with his new grandson, Dawson. Denny was an inspiration to everyone who crossed his path, especially during his last decade fighting cancer. His courageous battle was fueled by his yearning for additional time with family and by his love for life. Friends received Saturday 1-3 and 6-8 p.m., and Sunday 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the HAHN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 123 North Ave., Millvale. All are welcome to a Memorial Service on Monday at 12 o'clock at Christ Lutheran Church, 917 Evergreen Ave., Millvale. Burial will be private. Please direct donations to support cancer research at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, or to the Family Hospice at Canterbury Place. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
