FOWKES LEONARD A. AGE 74, PASS...

FOWKES LEONARD A. Age 74, passed away peacefully, on December 17, 2015, at his home in Geneva, Ohio, with his loved ones by his side. Born on May 3, 1941, in the Manchester section of the North Side of Pittsburgh, he was the son of Albert and Gladys (Hinderliter) Fowkes. Leonard and his siblings were raised by their devoted mother as their father died unexpectedly while they were very young. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Allen P. Fowkes. Len is survived by his loving wife, Janet (Baierl) Fowkes; and their two children, Joshua (Jennifer) Fowkes of Washington, D. C. and Heather (Trevor) Rusert of Songdo, South Korea; as well as his grandchildren, Parker and Graham Rusert. He is also survived by his brother, Edward (Jane) Fowkes of Wexford; his sister, Linda Cowan of Pittsburgh; and many loving nieces and nephews. Len was a proud graduate of the Milton Hershey School (1959) and served in the United States Army for three years. He later attended the Robert Morris University, earning a degree in Business Administration and practiced accounting as a CPA. In 1972, Len and Janet moved to Ohio where he started his career in the cable television business. He was member of the Rotary Club, Masonic Blue Lodge #45 and the Syria Shriners. As resident of Geneva for 43 years, Len was passionate about the local politics. He proudly served as the President of Geneva City Council and as a board member for several organizations. Len enthusiastically returned to Pittsburgh from 2007 to 2015, to spend time with his two grandchildren who he adored. Here, he enjoyed making runs to his favorite bakeries and attending college basketball games as well as Steelers, Pirates and Penguins games. Len, a voracious reader, loved having lively conversations as well as performing random acts of kindness. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at FLEMING - BILLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 323 South Broadway Street, Geneva, Ohio from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at Geneva United Methodist Church, 89 South Broadway, Geneva, Ohio on Monday, December 21, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Private interment following in Leatherwood Cemetery, New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
