GILBERT BRUCE HOWARD Born in Pittsburgh on July 2, 1925, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away on December 10, 2015, at the age of 90. Bruce was the son of the late Joseph and Priscilla (Dinner) Gilbert. He was the beloved husband of the late Jane (Hantman) Gilbert, to whom he was married 57 years; cherished father of Susie (Mark) Tabor of Boca Raton, Florida; loving grandfather of Gregory Tabor of Boca Raton, Florida; brother of Herb (Carol) Gilbert of Delray Beach, Florida; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Bruce attended Davis and Wightman Elementary Schools and Taylor Allderdice High School. After serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a radio operator in Scotland and England, Bruce returned to the University of Pittsburgh to complete his degree in the School of Business Administration. While at Pitt, he was a member of Phi Epsilon Pi Fraternity. He resumed his career with his father in the family furniture business, Gilbert's Fine Furniture on Smithfield Street, Downtown Pittsburgh, and began his 50-year devotion to the business. In December 1973, the store relocated to Pompano Beach, Florida. Bruce's lifelong love of sports included Sunday morning softball at Schenley Oval, basketball at the YMHA, golf and bowling. Private funeral services were held at the Temple Beth El of Boca Raton Mausoleum.
