ROSEMARIE "ROSE" MANTIA Rosemarie “Rose” Mantia, 103, died on April 5, 2020, at St. Barnabas Nursing Home in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania. Rose was born in 1916, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Agostino and Anna (Lombardo) Mantia. Following her graduation from Allegheny High School, Rose became a seamstress and assisted with her father's produce business at the North Side Market House in Pittsburgh. Prior to moving to an assisted living apartment at St. Barnabas in 2019, Rose lived most of her life in Bellevue, where she dedicated herself to volunteer work. In 1970, Rose joined the Women's Auxiliary for Bellevue Suburban Hospital (now Allegheny General Hospital, Suburban Campus) where she volunteered several days a week and also managed the “New to You” resale shop to raise funds for the work of the Auxiliary. Rose continued her volunteer service to the hospital and the Auxiliary well into her late nineties, earning a Certificate of Recognition in 2013 from the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital for her 88,168 hours of service. In 2006, on Rose's ninetieth birthday, the Pennsylvania Senate recognized Rose for 36 years of volunteer work, proclaiming “Ms. Mantia is an outstanding citizen who exemplifies the finest values of American life and has earned the respect of her family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances.” Rose enjoyed spending social time with her friends in the Auxiliary, sewing, ceramics, traveling and spending time with her niece and nephew, their families and dogs. Rose is known by all for her big heart, hard work, willingness to help others, and always cheerful disposition. Rose was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Anthony in 1996; and sister-in-law, Nancy Mantia in 2006. Rose is survived by her niece, Karla (Dan) Craven; and nephew, Michael (Lisa Canaan) Mantia; great-nieces, Eryn (Matt) Schappa, Hannah Craven, Mia (Jay Lowery) Craven, Sophie Craven, and Megan Mantia; great-nephews, Sam (Rachel) Craven and Nicholas Mantia; great-great-nieces, Charlotte Schappa and Audrina Lowery; and great-great-nephew, Jack Schappa.
