MARY PATRICIA (KELLY) STEINBACH "PAT" Age 86, of Wexford, PA. Pat was born on November 23, 1933 in the Manchester section of Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of the late Edward V. Kelly and Mary Fisher Kelly. Following her graduation from St. Benedict's Academy in 1951, Pat worked as the administrative assistant to the McCandless Township Tax Collector and subsequently took a position as an administrator for the Mellon Family's Securities and Trust at Mellon National Bank. Pat first met the love of her life, Bill, in the combined high school musical “The Gypsy Rover”. They rekindled their love for each other in the mid-50's at a chance meeting at West View Park's Danceland. Bill and Pat wed in 1958 and moved to Arlington, Virginia for Bill's job as a Washington News Correspondent. It was in Washington, DC that Pat took on the role as a volunteer tour director for the U.S. Capitol and D.C. area District Tours. She became so knowledgeable about the tours that the paid tour guides at the Capitol would tell patrons to ask Pat if they wanted a real tour. In 1960, Bill and Pat moved back to Pittsburgh to start a family. Pat loved nothing more than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Pat was a loving wife, compassionate mother, devoted friend, and “Mom” to many neighborhood kids, college roommates, friends of friends, and the many care givers she met over the past few years. Everyone was welcome at her table. She was happiest hosting weekly Sunday family dinners, cooking phenomenal meals, and often sharing her culinary delights with Bill's co-workers at KDKA. Traveling with her children and grandchildren was near and dear to her heart. She loved spending her summers in Myrtle Beach building sandcastles and searching for shells with her grandchildren. Her love of snow took her to Seven Springs where she enjoyed watching the grandchildren snowboard and ski. One of her favorite vacations was a Caribbean cruise with her grandchildren celebrating her 75th birthday. Hers was a lifetime filled with great joy and it was lived through “smiling Irish Eyes”. Her family will always remember her love of Christmas and of gift-giving, as well as her belief that chocolate made everything better. She was the ultimate homemaker. Although she will be sadly missed, her family takes great comfort knowing that she will be reunited with her one true love, Bill. At his funeral in 1998, Pat promised that she would love him forever. Twenty-two years later, it is a “promise kept!” Pat was the wife of the late William (Bill) Steinbach; loving mother of Debora Hocker (Gary), Mary Gingrich (Kurt), Nancy Beer (Sam), Janet Garber (Dan), and William (Patty); proud grandmother of Kurt Gingrich (fiancée Samantha Brown), William (Billy) Gingrich, Connor Gingrich, Phillip Beer, Madison Beer, William Steinbach, III, and Nicole Steinbach; and Sister of Rita Rhue and Peggy Norder. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, “cousins”, relatives and friends. Aunt “Sis” was the favorite Aunt to all. In addition to her parents and husband, Pat was predeceased by her brothers, Edward, James, and Jack Kelly. Pat's family would like to thank Dr. Scott Heyl for his many years of care and compassion. In addition, they would like to thank the staff of North Hills Health and Rehabilitation for their unending care, dedication and love for Mom. They especially want to thank them for the courtesies extended during her final days. In light of COVID-19, there will be no services at this time. In the future, a memorial celebration of Pat's life will be scheduled. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to North Hills Health and Rehabilitation, c/o The Gingrichs, 1946 Menold Drive, Allison Park, PA 15101. The contributions will be used to enhance the community room so that families can share similar memories to the ones Pat's family made with her over the past two years. Arrangements by DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
