LaMOND JEAN ELIZABETH Age 91, of Fox Chapel, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015, of heart failure. Jean was born March 19, 1924, in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Allen and Loretta Carl. After attending Albion College and graduating from Henry Ford College of Nursing in 1946, Jean met Gaylord M. LaMond, her husband of 52 years. They were married September 19, 1947. Together, the dynamic couple moved nine times during the first 26 years of their marriage as they followed Gaylord's promotions and business opportunities while raising their two children, Michelle and Gary. Along the way, Jean beautifully decorated and organized homes in Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, Geneva, (Switzerland) Philadelphia (again), Greenwich, (Connecticut) and Cincinnati, before settling permanently in Fox Chapel in 1973, where Gaylord took over management of the Isaly's Company. Jean was passionate about many things. First and foremost was her Faith; she and her husband were longtime members of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church. She loved gardening and flower arranging. She was a member of the Woodland Garden Club and an award winning flower arranger. For many years, Jean designed arrangements for the FCPC Harvest Fair. Jean belonged to a number of bridge groups and was an active member of the Newcomer's Group. She was an excellent seamstress who not only designed and created clothing for herself and her daughter, but could upholster furniture as well. Jean volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels, at her church, and for a time put her nurse's training to use as an EMT with Foxwall Ambulance Service. She knew the value of exercise, and was an avid swimmer, and attended Silver Sneakers into her 89th year! In every arena of life, she was known for her energy, empathy, pragmatic intelligence, organizational skill and artistic flare. For many decades, Jean sent hundreds of birthday, anniversary, Christmas and thank you cards every year to her life-long friends of all ages around the world. She is survived by daughter, Michelle Dunbar (David); son, Dr. Gary LaMond of Cincinnati; her grandchildren, Christopher LaMond (Cara), Emily O'Brien (Tim), Alexandra McMillin (Jake); her great-grandchildren, Jack and Harrison LaMond, Grace O'Brien; and her sister, Margie Girton of Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord on December 20, 1999. No Visitation. All are welcomed to a Memorial Service Celebrating Jean's Life on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road, where the family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by WEDDELL - AJAK FUNERAL HOME. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
