KAISER LLOYD E. Age 88, of Oakmont, Pennsylvania, went home to be with our Lord, on January 18, 2016. Born in Alpena, Michigan, he was the only child of the late Albert and Adele (Diemond) Kaiser. Lloyd, fondly known as Ki, was the loving husband and best friend of the late Barbara Wieand Kaiser. He was the loving father to Kristina Kaiser-Hipp and Timothy Kaiser; and cherished father-in-law of Douglas Hipp and Kristin Kaiser. He will always be known as "Grandpa" to his six grandchildren, Kaitlin, Patricia, Michael, Adam, Barbara and Joshua. Raised on a farm in rural Michigan, he went on to attend the University of Michigan where he earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in Radio and Television. Lloyd valued education deeply, and began his career as a professor at Lehigh University and the State University of NY at Fredonia, where he met and married his soulmate, Barbara Wieand. Dedicated to his belief that television could enhance education, he founded the Public Television Stations in Rochester, NY and Hershey, PA. After moving to Pittsburgh, Lloyd became the President and general manager of WQED/WQEX, where he founded Pittsburgh Magazine and WQED-FM. During his 23 year tenure at WQED, Lloyd was able to extend his educational reach and represent Public Television internationally as well, as an originator of many PBS productions including National Geographic Specials, The Chemical People with Nancy Reagan and an extensive literacy project with Barbara Bush. He was a longtime active member of the Oakmont Presbyterian Church and the Oakmont Country Club. He also served on the boards of many organizations including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Harmarville Rehabilitation Institute, Eastern Educational Networks, PA Public Television Networks, and the American Institute of Architects. He was a voracious reader, an avid gardener, had traveled the world and had a passionate love for theatre and classical music. Most importantly, Lloyd's integrity was lived out in his faith and in his devotion to his family. His grandchildren were his greatest joy. Ki was very generous in sharing his knowledge and experiences with others and in mentoring those around him. He was highly respected and honored. Ki loved well, was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Family and friends will be received at the Oakmont Presbyterian Church at 415 Pennsylvania Avenue, Oakmont, PA 15139, on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 10 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to the Oakmont Presbyterian Church.
