SHERLOCK RICHARD JAMES Age 95, of Panama City Beach, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016, at Covenant Care Hospice. Richard was born October 9, 1920, in Youngstown, OH to James and Emma (Frisch) Sherlock and moved to Panama City Beach in 1990 coming from Lima, OH. Richard was a WWII Navy Submarine veteran who served on the USS Pampanito (now part of the Maritime Museum in San Francisco, CA) during three of its war patrols in the South Pacific. Richard was retired from the steel industry where he was past President of Blaw Knox Steel and Chairman of Teledyne Ohio Steel, from which he retired in 1985. His memberships included the Submarine Veterans, Sea Wolf Base of Panama City, the Fleet Reserve, The Am-Vets, Post #47 of Panama City Beach and was a Life Member of the US Submarine Veterans, The American Iron and Steel Institute, Association of Iron and Steel Engineers, The American Society for Metals, and the American Ordnance Association. Richard was united in marriage on November 23, 1946, in Youngstown, OH, to his wife, Rita Vaschak, who preceded him in death in 1998 after 51 years of marriage. Richard was also preceded in death by his two sisters, Ruth Sherlock and Dorothy Zimmerman. He is survived by his son, Rick (Lyn) Sherlock of Falls Church, VA; his daughter, Susan Sherlock of Panama City Beach; his granddaughters, Stephanie Lee and Heather Sherlock; and his great-granddaughter, Corynn. Friends will be received 6-8 p.m., Friday, February 19, 2016, at the KENT - FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME where a Rosary will be recited that evening at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016, at St. John Catholic Church. Entombment with Naval Military Honors will take place at Garden of Memories Mausoleum.
