MARTIN BARBARA VIRGINIA (McVICKER) Age 83, of O'Hara Township, formerly of Wilkinsburg, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2016, at Presbyterian Senior Care Home in Oakmont, PA. Barbara was born in Pittsburgh and graduated from Wilkinsburg High School, Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham University), and the Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing. She was the daughter of Carl Grant McVicker and Ella (Bert) McVicker. She met her loving husband, Bill, in Latin class in High School. That started a 67 year romance, and 60 magical years of marriage. In 1955, Barbara and Bill were married in La Rochelle, France near where he was stationed while in the Army. That experience started a lifelong adventure in travel and exploration of most of the world. She is survived by her husband, William Halliwell; five children, Kathryn Danielle Meyers (William Meyers), David Bert Martin (Constance McClelland), the Rev Dr. Theodore Halliwell Martin (Rebecca Parkin Engleman), James Edgar Martin (Christine Marie Klein), and Timothy William Martin (Kim Maria Fisher); ten grandchildren, Amy Adell Scott, Susanne Kathryn Kahn, Carlin Ann Meyers, Daniel Ryan Martin, Elizabeth Ann Martin, Megan Catherine Martin, Caleb Benjamin Martin, Sarah Elizabeth Martin, Rachel Anne Martin, Thomas Michael Martin; one great- granddaughter, Lucie Mac Scott; her brother, Carl G. McVicker; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Barbara loved music; taught piano to generations of very young children. She sang in the chancel choir at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church. She continued her nursing by working in the Emergency Room of Allegheny General on weekends. For two weeks of the summer she would volunteer as a camp nurse at Summer's Best Two Weeks near Ligonier. She was the school nurse at Shadyside Academy for many years. One could make the statement that she was the only person who could read a book, knit a sweater, and watch television all at the same time. Most of all she was known for the overwhelming love she had for her children which now passes on to the succeeding generations. A memorial service has been scheduled for 11:00 a.m., April 9, 2016, at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238; Presbyterian Senior Care Foundation, 1215 Hulton Road, Oakmont, PA 15139; or Summer's Best Two Weeks, 111 Lake Gloria Road, Boswell, PA 15531.
