SNODGRASS JOHN SAWYER Passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015, at home in Friendship Village of the South Hills. Jack was born in East Orange, NJ, and raised in Miami, FL. He earned three engineering degrees: mechanical, ocean and metallurgical at the University of Miami and the University of Florida. He worked as an engineer for more than 30 years, first at Reynolds Metals in Richmond, VA, as the Supervisor for the Corrosion Engineering Group, and for Alcoa in New Kensington, PA. Jack was active in two Professional Societies: National Association of Corrosion Engineers and the American Society for Testing Materials. In his free time, Jack was a builder of models of large boats and cars. He was also a volunteer at Friendship Village of the South Hills, the Upper St. Clair Library, and the Habitat for Humanity at the Restore in Washington, PA. He served on the Board of Directors of the Westmoreland County Historical Society for seven years, including two years as chairman. He loved to travel, especially railroading across the United States and steamboating trips on Mississippi Riverboats. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jeanie; his sister, Betsey of Miami; his son, Joe; and three grandchildren, Eloise, Hanna and Violet Snodgrass of New York City; as well as his sister-in-law, Barbara Hess; and brother-in-law, Richard Hess of Pittsburgh. A private family Memorial is planned, and arrangements are being handled by McCABE FUNERAL HOME in Derry, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Jack's memory to The Employee Appreciation Fund of Friendship Village of South Hills at 1290 Boyce Road, Upper St. Clair, PA 15241 or The Westmoreland County Historical Society at 362 Sand Hill Road, #1, Greensburg, PA 15601.
