SHAY WENDELL L. Age 84, of Bethel Park, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015, at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna M. (Fulks) Shay. He is survived by his daughter, Tawny Shay Hall (Buzz) of Wyoming, IL; his son, Michael R. Shay (Jeri) of Bethel Park, PA; his five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his brother-in-law, John Rowand of St. Augustine, FL. Wendell retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (Penn DOT), where he worked as a civil engineer in the Pittsburgh area for over 20 years. He was a member and past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 760, in Bethel Park. He loved sports of all kinds, and worked for the YMCA and American Red Cross teaching swimming for many years. He was a Boy Scout Leader, Vigil Honor and volunteer and a Girl Scout father. He was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dormont. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Bethel Park American Legion, Post 760 on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to veterans' organizations, The Sons of the American Legion, or a charity of your choice.
