PIZZUTO ANTHONY E., Ph.D. Anthony was born on October 11, 1929, one week before the stock market crash. He walked the earth until Saturday, August 22, 2015, when he passed peacefully at home in the Friendship/ Bloomfield area, with loved ones at his bedside, including devoted wife, Carol (Tabacek) Pizzuto, who stayed by him until his last breath, and cousin, Bonnie Morrow. He'd lived in the house most of his 85 years. Tony loved to share stories about his ancestors, including his late parents, Amelia and Ernest Pizzuto. He valued family above all else, and leaves behind his dearly loved sister, Carmela Grecco of Florida; and daughter, Christine Marie Angela Pizzuto of Arizona (fiancé Daniel Scott Collins). In his final days he cherished visits and calls from those close enough to stop by, nephew, David Grecco; niece, Jill Wickerham, phone calls from niece, Patti Bonagiano of Florida and many other relatives, near and far, for whom he cherished a deep affection. During his life he worked in Public Relations, Training and Development, and did proofing for a law firm. The United Way, West Penn Power and Calgon Corporation (from which he retired after 27 years) all enjoyed his tenure. He also did editing for PPG Industries and technical writing for small businesses. Tony was known for his kindness, gentle spirit and integrity. His passions included history, ancestry, writing and music, especially opera and musicals. He sang in Sacred Heart Parish choir for 40 years, and later researched and wrote about the choir's history. He served as a member of parish council in earlier years. Tony enjoyed watching his neighborhood change over time and believed he and his wife lived on the "best block in town." He enjoyed friends and neighbors and loved telling stories. He was brilliant, chivalrous, loving, funny, and well respected. He rarely went anywhere without striking up a conversation with a stranger or an old friend, as he knew many people in Pittsburgh over his long life. We celebrate his remarkable life, though we will miss him profoundly. May his gentle heart rest in peace. Friends received at McCABE BROS., INC. FUNERAL HOME, CORRECTION 5300 Penn Ave., Bloomfield, on Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where Funeral will commence on Friday at 9 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Sacred Heart Church Organ Restoration Fund. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
