FLORENCE B. BURNS Age 93, died peacefully in Sharpsville, PA on Sunday, December 29, 2019 where she was residing with her daughter and family for the past year. Formerly she lived her entire life in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. She was born May 19, 1926 to Henry and Elizabeth (Brindle) in Pittsburgh, PA. She married Philip N. Burns on September 30, 1947 at Church of the Advent in Pittsburgh, PA. They celebrated their 50th anniversary just months before his death on December 10, 1997. Florence is survived by her children, Donna J. Stamoolis (Evangelos ‘Angelo') of Sharpsville, PA, Kenneth P. Burns of Rennerdale Township, Carnegie, PA; grandchildren, Damon P. Stamoolis (Stephanie) of Port Angeles, WA, Christina M. Stamoolis of Sharpsville, PA, Jason K. Burns of Carnegie, PA, Jessica R. Hoppa (Jason) of McKees Rocks, PA; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Sloan Hoppa and Kosta Stamoolis. Also surviving is her sister, Henrietta ‘Rita' Zaccaria (Angelo) of Castle Shannon, Pittsburgh, PA. Besides her parents and husband, Florence was predeceased in death by her sister, Thelma Scarff and brother, Robert H. Enders. The family thanks the Allegheny Health Hospice team who helped us through a difficult year of care. Your love and compassion for your work are truly appreciated. JOSEPHINE E. (BRUNO) GOLIXER Josephine E. (Bruno) Golixer, 76, a lifelong resident of Coraopolis, passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Family Hospice surrounded by her family. Born in Sewickley on February 3, 1943, she was the only child to the late Louis Paul and Mary Frances (Scalise) Bruno. On August 1, 2011, she was preceded death by her beloved spouse for 33 years, Stanley F. Golixer. Loving mother of Michele LeMaster, Miriam (Eliyaho) Twito, Tamar (Moshe) Harosh and Tyne A. Golixer; cherished grandmother of Anastasia (Tom) Barr, Mellonee, Ammi, Justice, Serena, Yosef Chaim, Moshe, Meir Menachem, Ruthie, Caitlyn, Menucha, Marcus, Ahmad and Joseph; proud great-grandmother of Salinda, Sloan, Sawyer, and Maliyah. Josephine loved life, and Josephine never met a stranger. MARY MARGARET (TURNEY) MATTHEWS On Thursday, January 2, 2020, Mary Margaret (Turney) Matthews, age 92, of Jefferson Hills, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 24, 1927 in Confluence, PA to John and Laura Turney, Mary had 5 sisters and 1 brother: Julia, Neva, and the late Ruth, Jean, Lois and Jack. Mary married Donald Matthews on February 24, 1952. They were married for 64 years when Don died in February 2017. Mary had 5 children: Laura Crain of Delmont, PA, Sally (John) Mattiello of Dormont, PA, Lisa (Wayne) McCloskey of Gilbert, AZ, Scott (Cindy) Matthews of Venetia, PA, and the late Jenny Matthews. Mary has 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She worked at Kmart in Pleasant Hills as a Supervisor for 27 years. After retiring, Mary had volunteered at Meals on Wheels, first working in Clairton, and then at the South Park location for a total of 27 years. Even at age 92, she continued to volunteer until just a few weeks ago. Mary had a love for gardening, antiques and garage sales. GENEVRA M. (WILSON) WEISSER passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Ohio Valley General Hospital on December 31, 2019 at the age of 94 years. Her journey began on March 5, 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA with her parents Francis and Frank Wilson. Genevra grew up in Carrick with her siblings Gus, Jim and Dick. Beloved wife of William F. Weisser (deceased); mother of Jeanne (Robert) McKivitz, David (Cindy) Weisser, Eric (Jackie) Weisser, Pat (April) Dorrenbacher, and Nick (Bonnie) Dorrenbacher; also surviving are her grandchildren Bobby (Tracey) McKivitz, David (Marcy) McKivitz, Audrey Puckey, Ryan (Aimee) Wysocki, Kelley Walker, Nicole (Peter) Tekula, Lisa (Elizabeth) McKivitz, Lynn (Josh) Johnson, Anja Weisser, Gracie Weisser, Zach (Bekky) Weisser, Callan Weisser, Hayley Weisser, Mike Dorrenbacher, Wes Dorrenbacher, Katlyn Dorrenbacher, Gunner Dorrenbacher, and great-grandchildren Christopher McKivitz, Jonathan (Morgan) McKivitz, Kristina (Casey) Walton, Samantha (Ryan) Hohn, Megan Puckey, Milania Tekula, Kinley Tekula, Carter Johnson, and Capri Johnson. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her. Genevra served the community for over 30 years as a crossing guard and was an active parishioner of the Roman Catholic parishes in McKees Rocks over the years. An avid camper, her other interests included spending time with family, baking, crafts, sewing, and living in the Christmas spirit all year long. Mom, Granny, Great Gran, Gen was truly a lover of life. Also known as “Granny Granny Ding Dong”, her life motto was to “put a smile on your face and a song in your heart”. ALLAN E. DREELAND Allan E. (LG) Dreeland, 72, of Upper St. Clair, passed away December 4, 2019 at the Donnell House, Washington, PA with his beloved wife and cherished daughters at his side. He was born on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947, in Paterson, NJ, the only child of Willard E. Dreeland and Ethel Vogel Dreeland Mossman. Allan was a graduate of Springfield High School, Springfield, PA, the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Following his graduation, he served with the U.S. Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Allan practiced law with the firm of Cooper, Lepore & Dreeland. In later years, he provided real estate settlement services with various title/settlement companies. Allan was a past member of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Leukemia Society of America and for over 20 years participated in the Kiwanis Club of Pittsburgh's Bingo at Children's Hospital, where he was known as “Dr. Bingo”. Allan was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Stephen Minister and Usher. LJ was also a proud member and distinguished member of the Pittsburgh Lacrosse Club where he served as goalie for many years. He was also a past Commissioner of the Allegheny Lacrosse League. Surviving in addition to his wife Joyce K. Dreeland, with him he celebrated 38 years of marriage, are daughter Linda E. Dreeland and her husband Eric Tegtmeier of Albuquerque, NM and daughter Wendy J. Ferris and her husband Eric of Roswell, GA; four grandchildren, Ben, Anna, Everett, and Jack Ferris, all of Roswell, GA; a cousin, Elvin P. Dreeland of Long Valley, NJ and many nieces and nephews. ANTHONY R. DESTRO Age 70, of Forest Hills and Erie, PA, died on Thursday, January 2, 2020, following a valiant battle with leukemia. Anthony was a throat cancer survivor who overcame tremendous odds. He was a loving and loyal husband for 45 years to Jacqueline (Miller) Destro and beloved father of Anthony O. Destro of Greenfield, Christina Destro of Erie, and Charles Destro of Verona. Brother to Ronald Destro (Lavonne) and Linda Destro of Forest Hills, and Dennis Destro (Karen) of Irwin; brother-in-law to Charles Miller (Jeanne) of New Jersey, Michele Gasparovic (George) of Pittsburgh, Craig Miller (Ida) of Ohio, Cary Miller (Bonnie) and Tracy Kreatsoulas (Nick) both of Monroeville. He will also be missed by the Destro Cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony R. Destro, Sr. and Merida (Holly) Destro. Tony was a member of St. Maurice Church in Forest Hills for over 40 years, attending Mass weekly. He was a Vietnam Era Navy Veteran and loved his country. Tony was a dedicated Journeyman Plumber for Destro Plumbing and Heating, Master Plumber at West Penn Hospital, and later became a Health Inspector in the Division of Plumbing for the Allegheny County Health Department. After God, family was Tony's priority. All his free time was spent at home with children and wife, or at their activities, especially competitive swimming. MARKOS J. XENAKIS, JR. Age 43, of Pittsburgh, suddenly passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Beloved son of Markos (Cindi) Xenakis and JoAnne Micale; loving brother of Alaina (Max) Stockhausen; treasured uncle of Cole and Lane Stockhausen; cherished grandson of Milly Micale and the late Joe Micale, and the late Molly and James Xenakis; adored nephew of Mike (Ronnie) Xenakis, Tina (Simon) Koutoufaris, and Ronnie (Dean) Stambolis; caring great-nephew of Jerry (Ken) Smith. Also survived by many loving cousins and extended family. Markos was a graduate of The Kiski Prep School and Robert Morris University. He was a longtime employee as an Auditor for the State Treasurer. Markos was loved by many. He was always able to light up any room and always so full of energy. MARGARET C. "PEG" (MONAHAN) ECKERT Age 85, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Friendship Village of South Hills. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Raymond; her son, David; brothers, James and Joseph; and sister, Mary. She is survived by her children, Robert (Gina) of Cranberry Township, PA, Tricia (Dave) Steffan of Utila, Honduras, Elaine (Larry) Gegel of Relay, MD, Susan (Kevin) Rettger of Bethel Park, PA, and Maureen (Bill) Maiden of Swedesboro, NJ; her grandchildren, Kelsey and Lindsey Eckert, David (Kelly) Steffan, April (Roy) O'Sullivan, Ryan and Kristina Rettger, and Billy (fiancee Molly), Michelle, and Kristen Maiden; her siblings, Paul (Grace), Dorothy “Dot”, and Kathleen; and many nieces and nephews. She was much loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Peg grew up in Philadelphia and attended Hallahan High School. It was there that she met the love of her life, Ray Eckert. Immediately after their wedding, they moved to Pittsburgh, and Ray started to work at Westinghouse. Peg's family and faith were her guiding stars and helped her craft a life full of love, joy, and humor. Laughter was always present in her home. Peg and Ray were longtime parishioners at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church. Peg volunteered at St. Elizabeth Grade School for many years and helped with newsletters and yearbooks and was a regular volunteer at the Church Spring-a-Rama festival. She was an incredible seamstress who made her family's clothes (including suits, bridal gowns, and bridesmaid dresses), curtains for her home, and award-winning Halloween costumes. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, knitting, decorating cakes, doing crossword puzzles, and going to concerts and musical shows. Peg moved to Friendship Village in her later years and made many friends there. She enjoyed watching the birds from the warmth and comfort of her apartment. JEROME D. BRANDY QUIRINO BRANDIMARTI Age 91, of Ingram, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2020. Born on April 11, 1928 in Sheraden, he graduated from Langley High School. As a young entrepreneur, he started Brandi Cleaners with his brother, the late Herman Brandimarti in 1948 and was inducted in the armed services in 1951. He married Rita Mareno and raised a family while continuing to grow the business. After selling it in the mid-nineties, he was employed with Novelty Advertising Company, selling novelties and winning several Top Salesman awards. Jerome is survived by his loving children: Dominic (Trina) Brandy, Jerry (Patty) Brandy Jr, Tammy (Zachary) Wyatt, Beth Brandy and Mari (Jim Van Soest) Brandy; his beautiful grandchildren: Olivia, Beau, Cecelia, Taylor and Chickie Brandy, Lacey (Mike) Zimage, Cara and Tierney Flodine and Stephen (Jacquelyn) Woodward; his precious great grandchildren: Miles and Lila Zimage and Gabriel Woodward; his sister-in-law, Norma Pyzola; known as Gizzy to his many nieces, nephews and cousins; brother of the late Emma Farey (Farina), Lena Scalise, Herman Brandy, Virginia Barone and Genevieve Brandy. LEO E. ERIKSEN, JR. Age 73, of Mt. Washington, passed after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, January 2, 2020. Beloved son of the late Leo and Lillian Eriksen; devoted brother to Nancy Petrone (Anthony) and John Eriksen (Janis); loving uncle to Cynthia Phillips (Jeff), Andrea Bohn (Drew), John Eriksen (Jennifer) and Jacqueline Eriksen; grand-uncle to Tess and Leah Phillips, Evan and Erik Bohn, Eleanor and Leo Katz Eriksen, Jack and Emma Eriksen. He graduated from St. Mary of the Mount and Duquesne University. He was a proud union president for many years for the Steelworkers Union District 10 #14034. JOHN P. PROCOPIO On Friday, January 3rd, 2020, age 98, formerly of Sharpsburg. Beloved Husband of the late Mary (Petrone) Procopio; loving father of Christine Lang (the late Edward), John S. Procopio (Henrietta), and Denise Myers (Paul); grandfather of David, Lisa, Stacy, Jeff, Michelle, and Amanda; great-grandfather of Matthew, Mia, and Dante; also survived by his brother, Salvatore Procopio. John was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in both WWII and the Korean War, and was retired from the U. S. Postal Service. John was a charismatic gentleman who loved his family and was a friend to all. Friends received Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at WORRELL FUNERAL HOME, INC., Sharpsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Juan Diego Parish in Madonna of Jerusalem Church on Monday at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to a charity of your choice. TIMOTHY M. BURKE, SR. Age 69, on Thursday, January 2, 2020, of West Mifflin, originally from the North Side. Beloved husband of 48 years to Joanne K. (McGinnis); loving father of Tim Jr. (Rita), Kim (Matt) Powell and Brian (Sandy); proud grandpap of Tim III, Jack, Ben, Sam, Morgan, Mackenzie, Katrina, Alexandria and Brian Jr.; son of the late Martin and Kathleen Burke; brother of Michael (Bonnie) and the late Butch, Marty, Debbie, Mary and Jimmy. Also survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Tim served his country in the US Air Force, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and was a longtime employee of Allstate Insurance Company. He had a passion for Pittsburgh Sports, using mulligans while golfing, and going on family vacations. But he was his happiest coaching and attending his kids and grandkids sporting events, where he excelled in working the officials. Friends will be received at the JOHN F. CHRISTOPHER WILLIAM GREIL, SR. Age 28, of Overbrook, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 1, 2020. He was born on May 23, 1991, the son of Jaime and Pamela (Hinsley) Greil, grandson of Richard and Carol Greil, John and Patricia Mattes, and Paul and Kay Hinsley. He is survived by his younger brother Austin (and his girlfriend Jamie Stanizzo), and the love of his life, Shalene Rae Herrmann; and their two beautiful sons, Christopher (age 5), and Dayton (age 2), and a 3rd child (Isabella) who is due in this world in a few weeks. Christopher was a devoted and loving father, an avid hockey fan who worked hard and enjoyed video games. He will be sorely missed by his aunts and uncles: Mark and Sandra (Greil) Schnurr, Richard and Stacy Greil, Daniel and Lora Greil, Linda (Greil) Detrich, Erica Hinsley, Paula Hinsley, Chrystal and Juan Castillo as well as his many cousins, Blake Greil, Ryan Greil, Michael Detrich, Lou Impell, Steve & Shannon Impell, Brittany Impell (fiance Jay), Michael & Jennifer Impell, Daniel Greil, Brandon Hinsley, Tyler Hinsley, Noah martin, and Summer Castillo, along with numerous 2nd cousins Logan, Kyler, Cameron, Charlotte, Steve Jr, Nick, Mike Jr., Gia and Ava.
