BARISANO LEO LEO BARISANO PASS...
BARISANO LEO Leo Barisano passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018, at the age of 91. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on March 31, 1927, he was the son of the late Frank and Tuliette (Munaco) Barisano; beloved husband of 42 years to the late Marie (Hanophy) Barisano and brother of Mary (Barisano) Cotton, Edith (Barisano) Watson and the late Nicholas M. Barisano. Leo is survived by many nieces and nephews across the U.S. including Carol Cotton Hendrix, Connie Cotton, David Cotton, Don Watson, Jr., Julie Watson Jones, Lisa Watson, Michael Hanophy and Patrice Watson; grandnieces and grandnephews, Ava Chaney, Bob Hendrix, Emma Chaney, Ethan Jones, Joe Cotton and Katie Erickson; plus dear friends, Kathy Clark and Jeannie Wattras. In 1938, the Barisano Family moved from East Liberty to Fordham Avenue, one block away from Highland Country Club in West View. In Leo's words when I was 11 years old, I walked up the hill and thought to myself, I have never seen so much grass in my life! Leo caddied at HCC until 1941 for $1 for 18 holes. Bags in those days averaged 60 pounds and Leo claims it was not an easy job. He moved to the grounds crew through 1944 for 65¢/hour and free golf. Leo never had a lesson and learned to love the game of golf in those years. From late 1944-1946, Leo served in the U.S. Navy as Seaman First Class in the Pacific front. Upon return, he became Assistant Pro at HCC. Working 12-hour days, 6 days/week allowed no time for golf, so he quit the job and joined as a member in 1949. During his years at Highland, he earned the title of Club Champion 14x winning the Seniors title at the age of 67. He was recognized as a lifetime member at Highland. Leo had a 32-year career with the Baierl Automotive Group. Finishing as Senior Sales & Leasing Consultant, Leo's former colleagues remember him as a loyal and devoted friend, advisor to thousands of customers and mentor to numerous young folks who were just entering the business. Marie and Leo lived and were active members of the North Hills Estates community. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association Scholarship Fund in memory of Leo Barisano. Send donations to WPGA Scholarship Fund, 930 N. Lincoln Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
