CULLY RONALD "RED" AGE 86, DIE...
CULLY RONALD "RED" Age 86, died Thursday, July 19, 2018. Husband of the late Mary Ann Cully, they were married for 60 years. Father of Lynn Venderley (Charles), Ron (Donna), Tom (Patsy), Craig (Brenda) and Lisa Kurchena; grandfather of Shawn (April), Brittany, Nathan, Mary, John, Kate, Danny, Michael (Michelle) and Matt; and great-grandfather to Aiden. He was the son of the late John J. and Margaret Cully and preceded in death by his older brothers, Bill and Jack, whom he looked up to. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. Red grew up in West View and attended St. Athanasius Elementary School and West View High School. He excelled in athletics playing baseball, basketball and football. On scholarship he played football at Youngstown State College. He left college to serve in the Army from 1953-55 as a Staff Sergeant in Ft. Knox, Kentucky and worked with the M4 and M47 Patton Tanks. He married Mary Ann while in the service and from that day became the chief taste tester of her baking and cooking. He worked for 42 years at Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania and was employed in various areas of the company but always in a role that highlighted his ability to interact with people. When working in the Collections Department, his gregarious nature resulted in friendship with many customers, sports figures and District Magistrates. He was a loving, active and supportive parent with his wife in raising their five children and was a caring grandparent. When needed by family, he was always available. He would travel to the midwest and New England to visit family or to watch his grandchildren's sporting events, plays, musicals and recitals. Several trips were also made to South America to visit his family. His sense of humor with family, friends, neighbors and medical staff were always forthcoming. A tough individual, who was confronted with multiple cancer diagnoses. Ron and his wife were active in Saint Sebastian's Church and school. Together they worked donut Sundays and the church festival. He coached the JV football team and was an Altar Server working funeral masses into his eighties. He enjoyed his retirement spending time with friends, golfing, visiting the gym or Lake Erie, but first and foremost, spending time with his family. However, the sudden passing of his wife Mary Ann in April of 2014 left a void in his life. Since her passing, he visited the cemetery daily and sometimes twice a day. Now they are finally reunited. Ron was beloved by all, and in his final years enjoyed the support of his loving family, but also the care from the wonderful individuals at Cumberland Crossing Manor. Friends will be received Saturday 6-8 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 806 Perry Hwy., North Hills. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Sebastian Church Monday 10 a.m. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Donations can be to St. Sebastian's Parish, or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America.
