McCOMB ANNE NAN (MERCUR) Age 91, died on Sat., Sept. 19, 2015, in East Norriton, PA. Beloved daughter of the late Rodney A. Mercur, Jr. and Katherine W. Mercur of Towanda, PA; wife of the late John P. McComb, Jr. of Pittsburgh and mother of J. Stewart (Diane) of Coraopolis, PA, Sarah M. of East Norriton, PA and David F. (Francie) of Bala Cynwyd, PA, and the late Richard B. of Fox Chapel, PA. Nan was a grandmother of five. She graduated from Saint Mary's Hall School (now Doane Academy) in Burlington, NJ and attended Connecticut College. During World War II, she served as a volunteer nurse. She was a passenger on the Congressional Limited train which derailed on September 6, 1943, in Philadelphia and she evacuated and tended to many of the injured passengers. She was a former President of the Protestant Home for Children in Pittsburgh, and worked for many years as an interior designer for Mark Christie & Associates. A longtime member of the Pittsburgh Golf Club and the Colonial Dames of America, Nan was devoted to her family and active in community affairs in Pittsburgh and in Englewood, Florida where she and John relocated after his retirement from the practice of law. She will be missed greatly. A funeral service will be scheduled at the convenience of the family in Towanda, PA.
