DAVIS MARLENE SURAN Age 79, beloved wife of Richard Grosvenor Davis for 52 years, died peacefully on November 1, 2015. She suffered from progressive supranuclear palsy, an incurable auto-immune disease, for the past five years. She was the daughter of Francis Edward Suran and Estella Halina Suran who preceded her in death. A 1954 graduate of Beaver Falls High School and a 1958 graduate of Chatham University where she majored in education and fine arts. Marlene began her teaching career at Sunnyside Elementary School in Stanton Heights. In 1968, she and her husband moved to Columbia, Maryland where she taught at Scaggsville Elementary School. After moving to Colorado, Marlene became a reading specialist in the Cherry Creek School District where she had a dramatic effect in educating thousands of students. She continued to receive notes and cards from them until she was well into her 70s. She pursued her love of art by taking further classes in watercolor, oil and other media. Her canvases are treasured by her family. She is survived by her husband, Richard, of Allison Park; her sibling, Cordelia Suran Jacobs of Sewickley; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Marlene's family thanks the many staff members of Concordia at Rebecca Residence in Allison Park for the exceptional care they provided during the last years of her life when she was a resident there. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service in Trinity Cathedral, 328 Sixth Ave., Pittsburgh 15222 on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Chatham University, Office of Institutional Advancement, 1 Woodland Road, Pgh., PA 15232.
