LYLE JOHN PAUL, Jr. Passed into eternal life on Thursday, February 4, 2016. Paul was born on August 11, 1923, in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of John Paul and Bennie Frey Lyle. Growing up in Birmingham, AL, he graduated from Woodlawn High School. He received a BS degree from Birmingham Southern College where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and an MS in metallurgy from the University of Wisconsin. After graduation he located in New Kensington, PA where he worked as an Alcoa metallurgist until his retirement. After a year, he married Elizabeth Lean a chemist (Koppers) of Shorewood, WI. Paul was an avid reader of history and botany. As a retiree, he volunteered at Phipps Conservatory with a special interest in bonsai and cascading chrysanthemums. He and Elizabeth enjoyed hiking in the mountains throughout the United States, but particularly the Appalachians, where they photographed many species of plants and flowers. Upon retirement, they enjoyed life at Longwood at Oakmont where they spearheaded many gardening and landscape projects. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Lean Lyle; and his sister, Pauline Lyle Campbell of Birmingham, AL. Survivors include a niece, Paula Girouard (Sam) of Lacey, WA; a brother-in-law, John Lean (Elinore) of Glendale, WI; a niece, Ann Lean of Fairfield, CA; a nephew, Wm. J. Lean of Madison, WI; a grandniece, Kristen Parkinson of Oakland, CA; and other relatives and friends. Memorials in Paul's name may be sent to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Arrangements were made by the BURKET - TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., Oakmont.
