VERTOSICK VERONICA M. Age 91, died early Friday morning, April 5, 2019, at her home, surrounded by her family.  She was born on Thursday, December 22, 1927 in New Kensington to the late Joseph and Susanna (Sinchak) Kuchta. Veronica graduated from New Ken High School and worked as an assistant to a New Kensington ophthalmologist before devoting herself full-time to her family. Nothing mattered more to her than seeing her family happy, cared for, and doing what they loved. She was a woman of great integrity and kindness, giving hours of volunteer time to church, community organizations, and anyone in need. She was passionate about education, read voraciously, loved music and hummingbirds, worked the New York Times crossword puzzles in ink, and regularly made a deliciously spicy spaghetti sauce for her family that she herself never liked – evidence of her enormous selflessness.  Her homemade Christmas nut rolls will be greatly missed. Veronica leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of nearly 69 years, Frank Vertosick, Sr.; her children and their spouses, Suzanne Vertosick of Natrona Heights, Christine Vertosick of Los Angeles, Drs. Frank Vertosick and Katherine Counihan of Fox Chapel, Paula Vertosick Bester of Natrona Heights; grandchildren, Emily Vertosick of Queens, and Elizabeth and Nich Popp of Cleveland; and many nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom she loved and touched deeply. She was quiet but had a delightful wit if you had the opportunity to enjoy it.  She was a woman of great faith, and an amazing wife and mother. Veronica's family is grateful for the generosity of all who supported them and contributed to her care. Private funeral arrangements were handled by the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights.  A private burial will be held at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Tarentum, PA.   Memorial contributions can be made to the Extra Mile Education Foundation or the Little Sisters of the Poor.  For online condolences and more information please visit us at: petersfamilyfuneralhomes.com Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb

DUFFY JEAN C. Age 85, of Shaler Twp., on April 14, 2019. Wife of the late Gilbert J.; mother of Keith (Denise) and Kevin (Kathryn) Duffy; grandmother of Malia and Kai, Adam (Uta) Colberg and Aaron (Julie) Colberg; great-grandmother of Dane, Ashton, Graham, Ryan and Evan; daughter of the late Thomas and Roxie (Purvis) King; sister of Virginia “Ginny” (Jack) Ulrich and the late Margie (George) Vernau, Ida (Rich) Behring and Alice (Bob) Glies. There are many words to describe Jean. Mother, Grandmother, Wife, Sister, Mother-in-law, Business Partner, Real Estate Agent, Model Actress, Singer Performer, Cheerleader and even Sunday School Teacher - But one word seems to describe her best “Fearless”.  Jean lost her parents at a young age so at the age of five, Jean found herself living with relatives who owned a Cotton and Tobacco Farm. Part of Jean's early life was contributing to the family farm by picking cotton and gathering tobacco. It wasn't an easy life but these were her duties and she abided by them. After several years Jean was reunited with her siblings by moving to Pgh., and living with her northern relatives. While in Pgh., Jean attended Millvale High School. She became a Cheerleader and became interested in the Drama Club! One day while cheerleading at a football game an opposing football player caught her eye. This Shaler Football Player was Gilbert Duffy. This football player became the love of Jean's life. They married soon after High School and raised twin sons, Keith and Kevin. Jean provided for her family by cooking and cleaning and making sure every holiday and birthday were special for her entire family. When her sons were ready to enter college, she attended and graduated from Median School and became a medical assistant landing a job in a gastrologist office. Jean eventually got involved in a business adventure a sign crafter business located in Homestead. But that Drama School interest wouldn't subside so Jean decided it was time for her to move to California and pursue her true dream. Jean made several commercials and even acted in a television series called Totally Hidden Video. Jean even performed in some small theatre groups and received her SAG card. She learned to fly a plane, ride a motorcycle and often drove a Winnebago back and forth to her southern roots. At the age of 60 Jean returned home to Pgh. She wanted to be close to family and friends. She occasionally performed by singing in senior citizen facilities but was most proud to become a grandmother. She was always happiest being with family. The Duffy family would like to take this opportunity to thank Life Pgh., North Shore and Asbury Heights for the care and service provided to Jean. Visitation Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at NEELY FUNERAL HOME, 2208 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. Service Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. The family would suggest in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Jean's memory. DeVALL NANCY JEAN (EVAK) With profound sadness we announce the passing of Nancy, our loving and devoted wife, mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on April 14, 2019. She left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence in Monroeville, Pennsylvania after a valiant fight against pancreatic cancer. She was in her 58th year. Born in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1960, Nancy touched many lives with her infectious smile and giving ways. She frequently gave whatever she had to others. Nancy met her husband, Mitch while working at Belle's Delicatessen in the Monroeville Mall in 1976. She was a cook and he was a dishwasher. It didn't take long for them to find each other and start a lifelong journey together. Nancy married Mitchell Gregg DeVall at the “Wee Chapel of Love” on May 16, 1981 in Tampa, where Mitch was stationed in the Air Force. Nancy then began a life as a military wife following wherever the service sent the both of them. After many years of living in Florida, Nancy fell in love with the beach life and her and her husband frequently vacationed on her favorite island of Aruba. She was the beloved mother of Stephanie and Mitchell and proud grandmother of Zoey. Nancy and her husband were also guardians to her brother Greg and nephews Jacob and Joshua Evak. Predeceased by her parents George and Theresa Evak, and is survived by her sister Monica and brother Greg. Nancy lived a full life as a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. She worked in the advertising department at the Port Authority of Allegheny County for the last eleven years. Nancy was an incredible friend to many and never knew a stranger. She genuinely cared about others and tried to help whenever she could. You knew when Nancy walked in a room and when she left because of her beautiful smile, laughter and loving heart. Family was always first for Nancy. She liked to work in her yard, kept an immaculate house, and loved to shop. Her favorite time of year was Christmas where she honed her shopping skills to the max. Christmas was Nancy's favorite holiday because she loved seeing the smiles on everyone's faces from the gifts that she had bought them. Giving was definitely Nancy's love language. Nancy loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and will be forever in our hearts. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., corner of (118) Shaw and Triboro Avenues, Turtle Creek (412-823-1950).
