KEARNS JOHN J. "JACK" Of Forest Hills, age 89, on Saturday, April 13, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Margaret K. “Peggy” (Kracunosky) Kearns; loving father of Mary Ellen Conley of Wayne, PA, Kathleen Dodaro of Forest Hills, James Kearns of York, John Bradley (Betsy) Kearns of Minneapolis and Sara Ann Kearns of Pittsburgh; treasured grandfather of Carolyn, Brian and Andrew Conley, Linda Kulikowski; Richelle (Frank) Buccilli and Alyson Dodaro; Kevin, Claire and Caroline Kearns, and Emily and Rachel Kearns; great-grandfather of Jordan Hines, Zane McMiller, Roman Leo Buccilli and the late Jamie Hines. Preceded in death by his sisters, Rosemary Balsley, Sara Leukhardt and Patty Egan; and his brothers, Charles, Walter and William Kearns. Jack is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Jack earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from the School of Mines at the University of Pittsburgh. He spent his 42-year career at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in West Mifflin. In 2012, Jack was honored to receive the prestigious Kroll Medal from the American Society for Testing and Materials for his important and lifetime work on texture, zirconium and its alloys, and hydrogen embrittlement, solubility and diffusion. In retirement, Jack volunteered as a Flivver driver in Forest Hills. He enjoyed bowling and golf and was a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Above all, Jack was devoted to Peggy and his family, whom he cherished and loved deeply. Friends are welcome on Tuesday, April 23 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. FERENCE MICHAEL VINCENT Age 62, died suddenly at home on April 17, 2019. He leaves behind his devoted, loving wife of 32 years, Debbie; along with his children, Christopher and Lindsay. Michael graduated from WVU with a Master's degree in Counseling. He worked as a clinician in the walk-in center at Resolve Crisis Network. His passion was helping those who couldn't help themselves. He'll be remembered for his “heart of gold” and his famous pecan rolls. A lover of Pittsburgh, he was an avid jazz enthusiast, ushering at the Manchester Craftsman's Guild. Beloved wife of Eugene Vaskov for 43 years; loving mother of Victoria "Tia" (Thomas) Sheridan of Morristown, New Jersey and Fr. Nicholas Vaskov of Pittsburgh; cherished grandmother of Thomas Cormac Sheridan and Anna Jean Sheridan; sister of Andrew (Lynn) Brucker, Michael (Beth) Brucker, Donald (Ginger) Brucker, Caron (Jeff) Wolfe, and the late Cynthia Brucker; sister-in-law of John (Suzan) Vaskov and Steve (Vinita) Vaskov. Connie is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Drew and Jean Brucker. Connie was a 1970 graduate of Churchill High School and a 1974 graduate of Edinboro University with a B.S. in Art Education. She shared her gifts as a teacher and artist with students at St. Maurice Grade School in Forest Hills from 1974-1984, St. James Grade School in Wilkinsburg from 1984-1993 and Penn Trafford High School, where she taught ceramics from 1993 until her retirement in 2015. Connie was also active as a volunteer in Music Ministry, and Art and Environment Ministry at St. Maurice, St. James and Our Lady of Joy parishes. She expressed her many artistic talents as a singer, painter, calligrapher, potter and iconographer. Connie had a way of making everything she touched more beautiful. SCHILL GEORGE EDWARD Well-loved by all, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, from Allegheny General Hospital from complications of a repair of an aortic aneurysm. He was 72. Born in Brookville, PA, on December 23, 1946, he was the son of the late Cletus and Gertrude (McLaughlin) Schill. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Debi (Almasy) Schill, and they made their home in Coraopolis. He is survived by his son, Bill Schill and his daughter, Penelope “Ed's precious granddaughter,” and son, Bob Schill; his daughters, Georgia (Tim) Hartswick, Lori Donahue, Melanie (Jason) Dorsey; six grandchildren; and his first great-grandchild, Jack. He is also survived by brothers and sister, Clete (Pat) Schill, Beth (Rich) Kindel, John (Katie) Schill and Joe (Cindy) Schill; also, many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Gipson. He was born and raised in Lucinda, PA graduating from St. Joseph School. He went on for his associate degree from Penn State University. He became an engineering draftsman for Dravo Corporation; after it closed, he worked for various other companies before he retired. He was an active member at the First Baptist Church of Coraopolis where he served as trustee and an usher. George was fun to be around and always had a smile. Tilden grew up in Squirrel Hill, attended Valley Forge Military Academy, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, and served in the United States Army. He started several businesses including real estate development and co-founder of DynaVox Systems. Under his guidance, DynaVox became a world leading manufacturer of augmentative communication solutions. DynaVox Systems had a profound impact on his life as well as many others. He became a strong advocate for people with disabilities and the professionals and families that support them. He was active in Variety the Children's Charity and Rotary International. His passion to support those in need was evidenced by his years of generosity. He took great pride in receiving the 1998 Pennsylvania Small Business Persons of the Year Award.
