ROBERT F. MCCABE, JR. PASSED...
ROBERT F. McCABE, JR. Passed quietly on April 1, 2020 at UPMC East in Monroeville after a short illness. He was 83. Born in Pitcairn on October 12, 1936, he was the son of Robert F. McCabe (Bob) and Edith Alberta Snee (Edie), and younger brother to Kathryn. Inspired at least in part by his maternal grandfather, a Justice of the Peace, he decided early on that he wanted to become a lawyer. He studied English at the University of Pittsburgh, obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in just three years, before moving on to his law degree, also at Pitt. He spent one summer during his undergraduate years studying at Oxford University in England and traveling around Europe an experience through which he became an avid Anglophile, returning to the British Isles and Ireland many times with his family in years to come. He met his wife (of 58 years), Charlotte, while in high school and they married on June 23, 1962. He was a skilled and faithful attorney who continued to serve his clients even into his 80s, only officially retiring in summer 2019. And although he traveled to his office in downtown Pittsburgh for much of his career, he always maintained a close connection with his childhood town. He held office hours in a small office in Pitcairn every Wednesday evening in order to provide legal advice to the local residents, and eventually relocated his full-time legal practice there to better serve the community who were eventually his main source of clientele. He also proudly served as Borough Solicitor for Pitcairn for many years. In addition to his successful legal practice he was also very keen to give back to the community, giving generously to charities and, in his later years, giving his time to various charitable organizations. A Freemason for many years, he became actively involved in the Penn Hills Caravan 20 of the Pittsburgh Syria Shriners and a number of its associated organizations, serving many offices, including as Solicitor. He also served on the Board of Governors at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Erie for nine years. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte (Overly) McCabe; his three daughters, Marsha McCabe of Crater Lake, OR; Lea Anne McCabe-Ferita and her husband, Mark Ferita of Forest Hills, PA; and Julie McCabe Tripp and her husband, William Tripp of London, England; and his five grandchildren, Steven McCabe Barto, Montana and Caden Ferita, and Emily and Edith Tripp. A private service will be held by the family, with a memorial service to follow in the coming months. The family requests donations be sent to the Shriners Hospital for Children Erie, 1645 W 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505. Funeral Services entrusted to Wm. O. PEARCE FUNERAL HOME, Pitcairn. DAVID THOMAS GREBOWSKI DAVID ...
DAVID THOMAS GREBOWSKI David Thomas Grebowski, 56, of Nashua, NH, passed away on Monday, March 23rd after a full and happy life. He was surrounded by his family as he went bravely into the unknown. Dave is survived by his wife, Laurie, who was the love of his life, and the frequent target of both his unrivaled sweetness and relentless sense of humor. He also leaves behind his son, Peter Grebowski (Bud), daughter Emma Nonnweiler (Butterbean); son-in-law, Tommy Nonnweiler (Tom-Terrific), and future daughter-in-law, Sara Rainer, with whom he shared many adventures, laughs, and beef jerky. His dog, Dixie, always remained by his side. Dave is also survived by his loving parents, Frank and Angela Grebowski; brother, Frank (Leona) Grebowski; sisters, Chris (Eric) Gardner, Caryn (Fernando) Argeles, and Caryl (Chris) Maltese; his mother- and father-in-law, Christine and Joseph Reilly; and his sister-and brother-in-law, Patti (Steve) Barrett and Joe (Kim) Reilly. He was fortunate to have 21 nieces and nephews, their partners, and two great-nephews in his life. Dave was born on July 7th, 1963 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He spent his formative years as a proud Pittsburgher and remained a loyal Steelers fan throughout his life. Dave graduated from Upper St. Clair High School and went on to become a Penn State Nittany Lion. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University where he studied Architecture and Marketing, and where he met his future bride (with a little help from The Who). Dave built a successful corporate career in sales and marketing before eventually following his love of design into the Kitchen and Bath design and remodeling business. In 2013, he and Laurie moved to Nashua and realized their dream of owning their own design showroom, Fay's Fine Cabinetry. Dave invested as much time and care into building his community as he did his business. He was a member of the Nashua Downtown Improvement Committee, the Nashua Community College Advisory Board, the Deering Lake Improvement Association Board of Directors, and a dedicated Board Member and volunteer for the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter. He treated each of his responsibilities with the utmost importance, giving his time and creativity to make local events special. From the annual NSKS Dinner Auction, Nashua's Holiday Stroll, The Taste of Nashua, to neighborhood block parties, Dave never did anything half-way. Dave also took time to enjoy life and be with his family. His favorite place to do this was at the family's camp on Deering Reservoir where when he was not actively rebuilding it into his dream cabin to share with family and friends, he would nap in the hammock, fish off the dock, float in the water with a beer in hand, and sit for hours next to a crackling fire (which he made sure was always carefully crafted to his satisfaction). When not at the lake, Dave found joy in simple pleasures. He spent his time playing guitar, hiking and exploring with family, and fixing anything that needed fixing. A lover of food, he enjoyed cooking with and for his family, trying new and exotic delicacies (especially the ones that didn't appear delicate at all), and preserving his family's longstanding traditions like a Christmas Eve feast of pierogis and the Seven Fishes. He was a sucker for a good dad joke and always the first to recognize a pun. He would re-watch his favorite movies on a regular basis and felt the need to enlighten you if you hadn't seen a classic like The Natural or My Cousin Vinny. Dave is someone who will never be forgotten by those who have had the pleasure of knowing him. So genuinely kind and appreciative of life, he made every day count. And though his time was unfairly cut short, those close to Dave knew that he was not afraid when it became time for him to go. Instead, he was grateful for the life he lived. Dave's family would like to give their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham & Women's Hospital, as well as the supportive staff and volunteers at the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Memorial services are on hold due to the COVID-19 outbreak and will be announced at a later date. In the meantime, if you would like to make a commemorative gift in Dave's honor, please consider a contribution to the causes that were dear to him: Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter, and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. ANDREA PATRICIA HOFF AGE 74, ...
ANDREA PATRICIA HOFF Age 74, suddenly, on Monday, March 30, 2020 of Brentwood. On Monday evening, March 30th, we lost Andi, and it hurts. Her big heart gave out, and just like that she was gone. It's tough to deal with her sudden loss. She was one of the truly fine women in the world. Quirky and filled with laughter; ferocious in the love of her five sons and grandchildren, a rock with Terry, her husband; a sister who was always there, and honest as any angel. (You could have entrusted Fort Knox to Andi.) No matter what challenges she faced - and she faced more than her share she faced with courage, integrity, tenacity and, when necessary, fire. And she overcame these struggles not for herself, but for others. Her heart was as big as a galaxy. If we can be as resilient and warm as Andi, as good in our marrow as she was, the world would be an infinitely better place. That is her legacy and her message: be, as she was, simply good. Now we commend her to her loving son Greg, and her parents Bill and Rosemary, and look forward to seeing her again someday ourselves, smiling, with her arms wide open, as always. Beloved wife of Terry Hoff; loving mother of Gary H. Hall, Jr., Gregory H. Hall (deceased), Stephen E. Hall, T.J. Hoff, Matthew N. Her deep personal relationship with her Heavenly Father, Jehovah was the heart of her existence.
