BARSOM VALENTINA KOMPANIEC Departed this world on Monday, July 16. Born in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, she immigrated to the United States after WWII with her parents and grandmother. A serious student who was the valedictorian of her high school class and earned her Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, she shared her love of Russian literature and language as a professor for almost three decades. Valentina will be forever remembered as being beautiful, smart, gracious, and fiercely devoted to her family. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John, with whom she traveled the world; by her daughters, Kathy Brahan (Jeff) and Lisa Barsom (Kimon Andreos); and her grandchildren, Paul and Anna Brahan and Nicholas and Johnny Andreos. JOOS DAVID VINCENT A resident of Coraopolis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Caring Heights, at the age of 64. David was born in McKees Rocks, PA on August 13, 1953, one of nine children to the late Peter Vincent and Beatrice Theresa (Cholko) Joos. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his oldest sister, Jeanne Chappel. David, a graduate of West Allegheny High School, was employed as an automechanic and enjoyed tinkering around with regular, antique and race cars. David was an avid fan of Pittsburgh Sport, especially the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins, as well as NASCAR. David treasured getting together with family during the holidays for traditional home cooked meals. He leaned on Philippians 4:13 daily and often quoted it back to others in their time of need. Never wanting to say goodbye on the phone, David would affectionately say, So long. Beloved brother of Kathryn Anne Crato (Mt. FLASH HERBERT Age 79, of Point Breeze, beloved husband of Phyliss (Freedman) Flash for 54 years, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family, on Monday night, July 16th, 2018. He is also survived by his three children Barbara (Alan) Todtenkopf, Dr. Jeffrey (Shayna) Flash, and Stephen Flash; his seven grandchildren Andrew, Mathew, Jodi, and Justin Todtenkopf, Zachary, Jacqueline, and Brandon Flash; his two sisters Gertrude (Flash) Dorfman and Sylvia (Flash) Lenoff; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Sarah (Levine) and Samuel Flash. Herbert lived a life centered around family, charity, volunteer work, community, and enjoyed golf. He graduated from Schenley high school, and then graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. After his service in the US Navy, he met, and fell in love with, his wife, and ran his own pharmacy for over 25 years. They raised their three children in Point Breeze. He adored, and loved, all of his immediate and extended family, instilling in them a strong work ethic and sense of charity. At 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, at Shaare Torah Synagogue, 2319 Murray Avenue, the public is welcome to pay respects to the family. BAULDOFF CORITA ANN Age 71, of Brandywine Village in Renfrew, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, July 14, 2018. Born May 2, 1947 in Daytona Beach, Florida, she was the daughter of Melvin and Frieda Michael Bauldoff. Corita began her successful career as a caseworker and eventually administrative position with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in Allegheny County and Butler County Board of Assistance Offices (1970-2007), impacting the lives of thousands of citizens in need during that time. In addition to her busy career, Corita was best known for the vast amount of time she spent volunteering her expertise and invaluable knowledge in her role as a member, board member and officer for various nonprofit groups in the Butler community. Over the years, Corita was actively involved with the following organizations: Butler County Symphony Association, Soroptimist International of Butler County, Butler County Junior Closet, The Center for Community Resources, ACT 101 of Butler County Community College, Victim Outreach Intervention Center (VOICe), Butler County Mental Health/Mental Retardation Advisory Board, Butler County Community Action and Development Board, Butler County Health and Human Service Council, Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA)-Chair of Housing Subcommittee, Women's Investment Network, Keystone Tall Tree Girl Scout Council, Crime Victim Services, Pennsylvania Federation of Contest Judges of Western Pennsylvania, General Butler Vagabonds Drum and Bugle Corps, Housing Team for Butler County Human Services and lifetime member of the Slippery Rock University Alumni Association. Ann was a registered nurse spending most of her career heading up the operating room at Podiatry Hospital of Pittsburgh. What she enjoyed most was being surrounded by her loving family.
