CZAK FRANK W. Age 99, died peacefully on January 25, 2019. Frank can best be described as a Renaissance man-- a person with many talents and knowledge. He was an athlete, a poet, a writer, a dancer, a composer, an administrator, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather. Frank was born on December 18, 1919 to Adam and Francis Czak. He shared his home on Polish Hill with his siblings, Helen, Stanley, Esther, Francis, Laura, and Walter. Frank attended Immaculate Heart of Mary elementary school and Schenley high school where he was captain of the football and baseball teams and vice president of his senior class. In April 1941, Frank married Dorothy Walls. Less than two years later, in January of 1943, he volunteered to serve in the army. He was assigned to the signal corps in India. After the war, he and Dorothy settled down in Sharpsburg where he started to work for the post of?ce, and they had their only child, Jane. In the '60s and '70s, Frank and Dorothy moved to O'Hara township, and Frank was consistently promoted until he was the supervisor of the Penn Hill post of?ce, which, at the time, was the largest branch in Pittsburgh. In 1981, Frank retired. He ended up being retired longer than he worked. In retirement, Frank enjoyed gol?ng and dancing. He excelled at ballroom and line dancing. He and Dorothy became seasoned travelers. They visited Hawaii, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Africa, and they traveled extensively throughout the US. Frank focused his creative energies writing poems (he had one published in the Readers Digest), short stories, and musicals. He wrote and directed several musicals presented by the St. Joseph's senior group in O'Hara. Also, Frank loved working on his computer. He word-processed much of his daughter Jane's, PhD dissertation work. He wrote and distributed a family newsletter and designed and printed his own original Christmas cards. Of all the things Frank accomplished and enjoyed in life, nothing brought him more pleasure, joy, and contentment than his marriage to Dorothy. They were married 76 years, and in that time their love and devotion for each other never diminished. Everyone who knew Frank would agree he was a one-of-a-kind guy. He was lucky in love and in life and blessed with a wonderful family, many friends, interesting hobbies and skills, and a long and healthy life. Frank is survived by his daughter, Jane Micale (Frank); his granddaughter, Kirsten Sigurdson (Rick); Frank's great-grandsons, Jason and Ryan. LUDWIG ANN (CRAIG) Age 82, of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, died January 28, 2019, in her Ellwood City home, following a brief period of failing health, surrounded by family who loved her. Her father, Harold Eugene Craig (who died in 1972), and her mother, Charlotte Ann (Holt) Craig (who died in 2006), hailed from families with a deep history in Beaver County, PA. Ann graduated from Aliquippa High School and received a BA from Penn State University. Ann met her future husband, Joseph Manion Ludwig, while attending Penn State University. Joe had a big white Buick convertible with red bench seats. He listed on a college bulletin board his willingness to give folks a ride to Pittsburgh on a weekend at a $2.00 fee. Joe remembers Ann being one of six respondents and looking breathtaking in a white dress with a yellow ?ower. Ann sat in the middle of the front bench seat and ran the radio. That encounter was the beginning of a “long ride.” They were married on October 10, 1959, at Saint Titus Church in Aliquippa, and began to raise their family, create Joe's law practice (Ludwig, Palenti, Wilson and Sullivan) in Pittsburgh and build a life together that would span sixty years. Unfortunately, their youngest child, Joseph Manion Ludwig Junior, of Zelienople PA, passed away unexpectedly on August 3, 2017. Ann's older brother, Harold E. Craig Junior, also predeceased her. Family survivors include her loving husband, Joseph Manion Ludwig, and their other children and their families: oldest daughter, Jennifer Ann Ludwig of Ellwood City, PA, and youngest daughter, Molly Beth Ludwig, of Goodland, FL; Ann's younger brother, John Edward Frank Craig, and his wife, Karen Maria Sandri Craig of Fitzwilliam, NH; Joseph Manion Ludwig Junior's wife, Lori Kay Slattery Ludwig; six grandchildren: Sara Evans Pletz, Harold Craig Evans, Franklin Joseph Evans, Gryphon Joseph Manion Ludwig, Maggie Mae Manion Ludwig, Sunny Rose Manion Ludwig: and great grandchildren: William Franklin Pletz, Joey Manion Pletz, Jordan Solo Evans, Zedekiah Joseph Evans; several nieces and nephews and their families; extended families and many friends; and faithful Chihuahua, “Pal” Ludwig; all who loved her very much. Ann had an amazing sensitivity to the needs of others, and, with her huge heart, she quietly made a difference for family and friends. Folks are quick to say, “I have never met a kinder person.” While all celebrate her life and will continue to carry her in their hearts, they will greatly miss her daily presence. In keeping with Ann's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Vinny's Restaurant (620 Beaver Ave., Ellwood City PA. 16117), at 12:00 noon, RSVP Jennifer at 724-202-9212. The family has asked that, in lieu of ?owers, contributions be made in her name to The Alzheimer's Research Foundation, 3152 Little Road, Suite 146, Trinity, FL 34655; or by phone, 813-920-2922.
